Book Review - The Bone Shard Daughter

Review – The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart

The Bone Shard Daughter is a satisfying though wanting end to a novel on human experience. What makes us human? Are humans made or born? Indentured servitude or slavery, is one worst or better? What is the alternative? Is it acceptable to do unacceptable things for the greater good? Who defines the greater good?

Book Review - Amari and the Night Brothers

Review – Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. AlstonΒ

Tucked within a YA adventure story full of magic and intrigue is a powerful message on being you. Holding onto your principles despite the cost, and hoping but not expecting that those with closed minds/ who write you off, will eventually see you for who you actually are, not what they’ve assumed.

Wonderful start to a new series by B.B Alston, read with feeling by Imani Parks. Enjoyed it immensely.

Review – Keeper of the Lost Cities byΒ Shannon Messenger

Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger starts with a good premise: a tween who’s not like everyone else. This is a generalisation or more accurately a truism, that most people want to feel necessary, be important and it’s set up from the beginning of the novel that Sophie is all that and more.

Book of the Month – November 2019

The message I got from this book was when you believe in yourself when you acknowledge the belief that someone has in you, everything is possible. You find a strength you didn’t even know you had to fight, to stand up for yourself and be a leader. This invokes the times Amani has referenced Binta telling Amani to be brave, as if Binta knew that despite appearances and past behaviour, Amani could be brave.
